Critical finding

The app is systematically failing to deliver on paid subscriptions, particularly the "lifetime" plan, leading to widespread accusations of being a scam. This is compounded by non-existent customer support, severe app instability, and credible allegations of review manipulation and a major data breach. Key themes

ISSUE Subscription & Billing Scam
241

An overwhelming number of users report paying for a lifetime or annual subscription, being charged (often multiple times), and then losing access to the app within days or even minutes. The app reverts to the paywall screen, and the 'Restore Purchase' function fails, effectively stealing users' money. This is the most frequently cited and severe issue.

ISSUE Non-Existent Customer Support
105

Users are furious about the complete lack of customer support. Emails go unanswered for weeks or months, support links are broken, and refund requests are ignored or deflected to Apple, who often denies them. This leaves users with no recourse for the prevalent billing issues.

ISSUE Pervasive Bugs & Instability
98

The app is described as extremely buggy. Common complaints include frequent crashes, spontaneously resetting user streaks and progress, broken content blockers, faulty login systems, and non-functional buttons, making the app unreliable and frustrating.

ISSUE Predatory Paywall & Marketing
82

Many users feel the app preys on vulnerable people by forcing a subscription with no free tier or trial. They criticize the business model of profiting from addiction. Deceptive tactics like fake countdown timers and high-pressure "limited time offers" are also frequently condemned.

STRENGTH Helpful Concept & Community
25

When the app functions correctly, a minority of users find it to be a valuable tool. They praise the accountability features, the supportive community, the streak tracker, and the overall mission of helping people quit adult content.

ISSUE App-Breaking Ad Integration
19

In February 2026, a wave of reviews reported that a partnership with BetterHelp resulted in an un-closeable, full-screen pop-up ad that rendered the app completely unusable for paying subscribers.

ISSUE Allegations of Fake Reviews & Data Leaks
10

Several users allege the company pays for positive reviews on Reddit, which could explain the discrepancy between the high overall App Store rating and the sentiment of recent reviews. At least two users also cite a media report about a massive leak of all users' private information, a critical security failure.

Notable reviews

Where is the Lifetime Subscription I Paid For? ★☆☆☆☆
@AltairZ016 · 2026-05-23

Purchased the lifetime subscription for $49.99, then was unable to access it... I reached out to support, but they weren’t helpful in the slightest. They just kept insisting that they fixed everything when I still couldn’t access the subscription I bought...

Absolute Scam. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY ★☆☆☆☆
@Jolden75 · 2026-05-18

I bought the $50 lifetime deal... when I left the app and came back, it prompted me to pay again and locked me out even though my payment had went through. I requested a refund from Apple who will not refund this AT ALL. And when you contact Quittr support they ghost you.

App is a scam when comes to Lifetime Subscription ★☆☆☆☆
@Prince sainikhil · 2026-04-23

I am on a yearly subscription and upgraded to lifetime subscription which got charged to my card but app is unable to reflect the new subscription status. No help from Apple when requested for refund and also no response from the quittr app support.

Terrible support from developers ★☆☆☆☆
@Randommreviewer · 2026-04-20

I was charged twice when I tried to sign up for lifetime access... The only workaround they have was to give me a developer code that can bypass the paywall, instead of just fixing the issue. Customer service has also repeatedly ignored my attempts to get a refund since they charged me twice.

Spamming fake reviews ★☆☆☆☆
@Zrek Bo · 2026-04-19

They are trying to push people to drop false reviews for pay, posting on social media.

Data leak - all user info exposed ★☆☆☆☆
@Prstns · 2026-03-23

Check the 404 media article, Quittr leaked all their users private information. How is it still on the App Store? Disgusting to know such personal info is now in the hands of hackers in mass

Absolutely TERRIBLE! ★☆☆☆☆
@CNDSTEVE · 2026-02-20

Watch the interview with Brett Malinowski on YouTube, where Alex Slater, the founder of the app openly admits to luring people in to the app... he admits that 99% of his income from the app comes from the discount promotion which pops up every few hours and creates FOMO

BetterHelp partnership ruined app ★☆☆☆☆
@person in progress · 2026-02-19

Same as recent reviews. I can’t get out of the BetterHelp screen that pops up on the app. Unusable until fixed. Wtf.

SCAM WARNING: Billing Fraud / Impossible to Cancel ★☆☆☆☆
@Miles1187 · 2026-02-11

BEWARE: This app uses a fraudulent billing tactic to trap users. They direct you to an external website to sign up for a '3-day trial' via Apple Pay, which bypasses the official Apple Subscription settings. Once you sign up, the 'Unsubscribe' button inside the app is intentionally greyed out and broken.

Trying to get a refund. ★☆☆☆☆
@hajjrjf · 2025-12-13

Basically I bought the life time membership. It wouldn’t log me in. Then I bought it two more times thinking that would fix it. But all that did was nothing. I’ve been trying to get a refund for weeks now. And the customer service team hasn’t helped one bit

Among the Best ★★★★★
@El_Guru_ · 2026-05-15

Quittr provides super practical aids to literally go to when you’re in a rough moment. You also have simple and easy access to tons of people JUST LIKE YOU who are on their journey... I’m 25 days clean, and though a long journey awaits, I’m extremely hopeful and optimistic, in large part because of the resource I have in Quittr.

Incredible App ★★★★★
@LOOOLlwww · 2026-04-28

This app helped me stay accountable, learn about sexual contents impact on my brain, and gave me a community to vent to and share stories with during the journey. It’s been 75 day without adult content and I don’t plan on going back.

**Update** improved customer service ★★★★★
@JackLikesBirding · 2026-04-02

They have recently revamped their customer service and support tickets and I got taken care of. I was given contact to reach out to the developer which made all the difference. I really appreciate that. Recommend!

Best healthy app. Only one app than actually helped me to quit porn. ★★★★★

Feature requests from users

REQUEST Home Screen Widgets
4

Users want to see their progress, particularly their current streak, on their phone's home screen via a widget. This would serve as a constant, visible reminder of their progress without needing to open the app.

"Y’all should add widgets to keep reminding us."
"A widget showing streaks would be perfect."
"Guys you need to add widgets like one to show the streak counter for example."
"Widgets don’t work"
REQUEST Language Support (French, Turkish, etc.)
3

Non-English speaking users are requesting localization. Specifically, users asked for French and Turkish language support to make the app accessible and usable for them.

"C’est possible de rajouter le français dans l’application svp"
"Uygulama güzel ama türkçe dil desteği gerekli"
"Pagué la suscripción anual, es un timo de aplicación, no está en castellano"
REQUEST Free Version
3

Multiple users feel that an app designed to help with a serious addiction should have a free, ad-supported, or feature-limited tier. They argue that putting help entirely behind a paywall excludes many who need it, especially younger users.

"Please make a free plan and make a premium plan u pay for"
"Make a free version lol"
"Make a free version to help everyone else."
REQUEST Inability to Delete App
1

One user requested a feature similar to other blocker apps where the user can prevent themselves from deleting the app, adding another layer of accountability.

"I would love for the app to have an option that you can not delete the app like blockerx that would make this app level up"

Recommendations

1. Immediately Fix the Subscription & Billing System This is a trust-destroying, potentially fraudulent issue that is your top priority. Ensure all paying users, especially 'lifetime' subscribers, retain access permanently. The current bug that logs users out and demands re-payment is unacceptable. You must investigate and proactively refund every user who was double or triple-charged. This is being perceived as an intentional scam and is causing irreversible brand damage and legal risk.
2. Establish a Functional and Responsive Customer Support Channel The current support system is non-existent and is exacerbating every other problem. You must hire and train a support team to respond to inquiries within 24-48 hours. Clear the entire backlog of support tickets, prioritizing users with billing issues. A functioning support system is critical to rebuilding any user trust.
3. Investigate and Publicly Address Data Leak & Review Manipulation Allegations Credible allegations of a major user data leak and paying for reviews must be addressed immediately. Conduct a third-party security audit, be transparent with your users about any breach, and secure your systems. Cease any and all inauthentic review generation practices. The legal and reputational risks of ignoring these issues are catastrophic for a health-focused app.
4. Halt New Feature Development and Focus Exclusively on Stability The app is plagued with core stability issues like crashes and data loss (streaks, journals). Losing progress is devastating for users in recovery. Dedicate all engineering resources to fixing these fundamental bugs before considering any new features. A reliable, stable app is more valuable than a feature-rich but broken one.
5. Overhaul the Onboarding and Monetization Strategy The current high-pressure, pay-to-use model is alienating potential users and feels predatory. Remove deceptive tactics like fake timers. Consider a freemium model: offer a basic, free tier (e.g., streak counter) with premium features (community, courses) as a paid upgrade. This would build trust and allow users to see value before committing, likely improving conversion and retention.
